A neck lift is a cosmetic procedure that is commonly performed to improve the aesthetic appearance of areas of the neck that have begun to show signs of aging. Commonly called a "turkey neck", the neck lift procedure (cervicoplasty) will restore the neck to its former appearance through the use of liposuction and the tightening of the neck muscles. Neck lift surgery is typically performed to address abnormal contours formed due to muscle banding in the neck, excess fatty deposits under the chin, and jowls in the lower face caused by skin relaxation and excess skin. These issues can develop for a variety of reasons, including stress, environmental conditions, hereditary predisposition, or general aging. A neck lift can be an ideal solution for individuals who are struggling with feelings of self-consciousness, as well as patients who do not require a facelift, but do have jowl lines, a double chin, and/or neck skin wrinkling.
